Rome Day 3 - Part 2:

So, after a long day of art at the Vatican and St. Peter's we freshened up and hit the town to see if we could find an OPERATING fountain!  And we did, at Piazza Navona.  We liked it there!  Full of bustle and fun.  We had a delicious meal in a pretty spectacular setting, and felt like things were about as beautiful as they could be.

They just really, truly know how to light places at night in Italy.  There's this gorgeous golden light bathing everything and it's all very romantic.

There, now that's more like it!  Yes, someday I'll have to see the Trevi full and running, but in the meantime, at least we had the Four Rivers.  (Bernini!!)

Truly; a terrific location for dinner.

This was Rome.  Everything we ate was super salty.  But it was really very tasty!

Fontana del Netuno

And we found the Pantheon! That was actually pretty easy.  It looks gorgeous at night. Naturally, we would have loved to get in there during the day.  Next time I come to Rome, I'm giving it six days, I promise.

Caroline does love an obelisk.  The Fontana del Pantheon

This fountain has gone through an extraordinary series of changes over the centuries:

Side view of the Pantheon, but you really couldn't see the dome from any of these angles.

And then, surprise and delight - we came around a corner and unexpectedly found Bernini's little elephant obelisk!  He hated it but we think it's adorable, even if the trunk is a bit ridiculous.

After that, we found our way to a bus stop and successfully navigated our way back to the B&B by bus. We were starting to feel like we had the hang of things (which got turned a bit on its ear the next day, when we were trying to cope with buses and Sunday service, lol).
